People Power is Still #1

Spent the week in various capacities celebrating the wonder of networking..from presenting traditional networking skills for future leaders at Monmouth University to connecting community minded women in fashion on the runway  to teaching technology driven networking at Twitter class on Friday. The bottom line is, at the end of the day…its all about people. Love being a connecting conduit to help everyone go higher  as a team because there is no “I’ in team..but there’s a lot of friendship, fun and fabulous energy in the concept around abundance and bounty for all! Networking well is a long term strategy play that pays big dividends if done well with enlightened folks. Its teachable, tangible and totally terrific. Its a paradigm I’ve been practicing for twenty five years in business and service to others and I’m certain its the key to success in enlarging  one’s multidimentional life…no doubt!

Rockin Little Rock, AR

I love to travel but have to confess, Arkansas was never on my Top Ten places to visit. Even in the middle of winter, we had fun celebrating Valentines Day and visited many interesting sites worth mentioning. On the top of my list was Heifer International.  Thrilled to visit a place I had read much about over the years! Heifer International is a shining example of how one person can change the world in BIG ways.  Heifer’s mission is to end poverty & hunger while caring for the earth in sustainable ways. Since 1944, Heifer has helped 10.5 million families in more that 125 countries move toward self reliance through the gift of livestock and training in environmentally sound agriculture. Ten bucks buys a mosquito net to protect families vs mosquito borne illnesses and twenty bucks buys a flock of chicks & the training to care for them. One hen lays up to 200 eggs a year! Better yet, a Heifer(the namesake cow) costs $500 bucks which provides up to 4 gallons of milk a day! Great gift ideas to empower the underserved abound at this cutting edge sustainable facility at 1 World Ave in Little Rock, AK. What better way to celebrate love on thematic Valentines Day than a visit to Heifer Int. with Rice Fried Catfish in pickled green tomatoes, jalapeno cheddar spoon bread and malt vinegar remoulade for a meal. We even lunched w a marathoning couple from Kansas who’s father had worked internationally for Heifer for years. Her visit to Heifer was her way of honoring her dad’s legacy and we picked up a marathon invite to the flatlands of Kansas.  Like i said, a perfect Valentine’s Day all around!

Dog Divas

We lost our dear cocker Heidi last week amidst adoring Dog Diva friends that understand the quality of canine companionship.  Remaining cocker, Happy Henry hasnt even noticed. But we have. She was sweet, kind, tender and totally lovable. Heavenly Heidi graced our path for almost 10 yrs after the twin towers came down. We called the dog rescue folks in NYC to inquire about displaced dogs that might need a happy home with a hellion named Henry in 2001 and were happy to learn all the dogs during 9-11 were apparently accounted for..so we kept going and  rescued Heidi from the kill mills of PA and wow! was she happy to arrive. Her femininity had been overrun by avaricious puppy  making money driven peeps that simply wiped her out. She spent ten yrs quietly spreading her joy in jersey and we’re happy she’s resting peacefully now after a tumor took her last days. To heavenly Heidi’s memory and to happy Henry eventually missing a fabulous dog diva!

Check out a great read by and for women being beautiful through survivorship. Nervous i might trip on the catwalk but as my dear pal quipped, “Hey, no worries..if you trip you’ll be on youtube for 20 million instead of 2 million via video streaming live!” Funny man! Love the peaceful serenity of a new snowfall..especially when i can enjoy it with a dog walk before the rest of the world discovers the magic! Forecasts of deeper dumpings of snow have me all settled in completely immersed in writing my first book entitled Speechless…a compilation of speeches delivered over the last few years to empower others through adversity. Its upbeat, lively and a testimony to passion always being in fashion even when the unspeakable comes knocking at your door. Dedicated to my handsome husband. Written for others in service about self.  I’m just happy to be alive to enjoy long dog walks in the wintery white glory of snow, snow, snow..

Empowering Women

Have spent 20+ buttoned up business years assisting clients in securing financial stability for themselves and their families with an MBA and a myriad of insurance and real estate licenses.  Got hammered with a killer cancer at 42 at the height of my career and redirected work life to include professionally speaking to empower others…in finance, fitness and femininity.

Never in a million years did this fork in the road anticipate mid life pageantry or modeling, but if  rare sarcoma cancers could go higher by leveraging  business, fitness and passion to serve others…well, sign me up! Horrah! Won numerous titles for sarcoma cancer awareness in first attempt at pageantry with an 18 inch torso scar! Was honored Saturday nite amongst other courageous women w my pageant sisters and felt LUCKY to be with many beautiful, smart and community minded celebrants. See, we can have it all…just not at the same time! And i keep reminding myself that bumps in the road can be freeways for others.

Back at the day job negotiating contracts to protect clients wealth and  feeling very lucky to be alive and contributing.

PS. I hold nothing back when i urge  clients to plan well for financial freedom. Who knows, maybe cerebral pals will be competing in a midlife pageant someday:).. At least they’ll be well prepared ..or as well as possible when the unexpected occurs! Less fear, more fun…because passion is always in fashion…and financial freedom helps!

Learn Twitter, Sweat Glitter!

Life long learning has always been a big rush for me…especially when shared w colleagues and friends. Friday’s “Tweet & Eat” sessions have become a HipCity hoot as curious peeps connect to learn, share and network around what’s possible w Twitter w Mrs RedBankUS09. Its an honor to lead this effort which began on a whim, thanks to inspiration from National Speaking Association pal, Gina Schreck(@ginaschreck) who first introduced me to Twitter at a tech power breakfast for speakers. Thanks GeekyGirl!  From Zero to Zoom in Twitter we go! We’re still all beginners sweating glitter for twitter and higher learning, but we’re also having fun networking the old fashioned way..which i believe is a winning combination in this new world paradigm of socialnomics.
